  1. Nice… stage lighting can be tough but it is handled well here.

I’m not sure where I stand on the crop… I might like to see the whole instrument, but understand the possibility of other things creeping into a shot of live music.

  2. I like the composition, it focuses the attention more on the musician than the instrument. The lighting is interesting. I think that is called Rembrandt lighting, with half of the face in shadow.
Also, if you look closely, the reflection from his glasses forms an arrow pointing to his right eye, which subtly directs your attention there. Pretty cool.

    1. Thanks Kathy. Yes, this is Rembrandt lighting done with a single strobe about 45 degrees to the left of the camera. A very little bit of fill light from the right might have given the picture more balance, but I’m pretty happy the way it is.

  3. I like the composition and I am impressed at the lighting and the “moment” of the portrait. I also see the implied story that is being subtly told by the inclusion of the oxygen line.

  4. I agree, beautiful lighting and the black and white brings out the details nicely. I would like to see the rest of the instrument and his other hand/arm.

  5. I love it just the way it is. It caught my eye immediately. Not missing the rest of the instrument…what you captured is nicely done with lighting, expression and the instrument.
