Nice colors. I like that it’s shot straight on, which produces a formal, balanced feel to the composition. But the courtyard in the middle is dark with an off-center door, which throws off the balance, which adds interest.
I also like the little scenes (or compositions) within the larger scene: the area in the background, with the half-window and the potted plant; the composition of the middle area, where there is a play of rectangles and arches, and the front, with the scraggly trees framing the man-made rectangles and curves.
I love the path inward with its contrasting color values and the staggered openings! The very dark vertical of the door and the horizontal shadows add a lot. I agree with what Ben described above, and I can linger in this image for a very long time. It really speaks to me. Egypt?
