  1. Such a sad photo. The plight is offset by all the vibrant colors. Great editorial contrast.

  2. It’s a terrific picture on several levels: composition/color, social commentary, and, possibly, symbolic.
When I saw this, I interpreted it as a portal/entrance. It is a port, of sorts, or at least a spot where boats come and go. Further, the boy is moving towards something, off to the right. The trail of garbage seems to be leading towards something. I see it as an entryway into something I don’t really want to contemplate (but must): garbage as a source of sustenance.

    1. What a marvelously rich photograph this is! The stories within it are as complexly emotional as the image is visually stimulating. The blue can draws us straight to the boy, who is nicely isolated from the frame of colors and objects surrounding him. I just love this.

  3. Love this image for the reasons already given. There is a loneliness to the figure of the boy amidst the garbage and the lined up boats. That sense of loneliness may be enhanced if you clone out the other human figure in the background. Of course, you must make the judgment as to what that second figure adds to the image.
