  1. It works for me. A melancholy rainy day, nice departure from a standard portrait. A pubescent Mona Lisa?

  2. I find this photo to be incredible–but just wish it was an older person. She’s so young that it feels like a sad photo for a child–a great photo for someone older–but maybe it’s just outside my comfort zone.

    1. She’s a very happy healthy 7-year-old that poses (naturally) for her grampy every once in awhile.

  3. No matter the age, there’s something going on behind those eyes. It’s very expressive–and rather haunting.

I don’t want to reduce this to anything other than itself, but it reminds me of certain Pre-Raphaelite paintings.

  4. Those eyes evoke so much. Not the eyes of a typical 7 year old. Did you show it to your grand daughter? If so, I am wondering what her reaction was.

  5. I love this, I don’t think it looks like a sad photo, to me it seems like she’s in deep thought. Love the lighting as well.

  6. This is a remarkable portrait. The soft tones, lighting, and use of what looks like shooting through a rainy day window creates a mood of reflection as if your young grand daughter were pondering something in her mind. It’s not a typical portrait you see everyday. Nice job.

  7. This is a window to our “cabin in the woods,” named Unplugged. It was freezing outside but we had the heat on inside, so the window was fogged up. I stood outside the door and asked her to look at me through the window. In the original, you can see my reflection, so I had to crop it tightly.

  8. I agree with the others. This is a remarkable portrait. Your grand daughter looks to be in a reflective mood on a day when the weather outside the window might not be welcoming. Good capture.
